Al Capone

   American gangster and a leader in Prohibition bootlegging, Al Capone is one of the single greatest symbols in the collapse of order in the United States in the 1920's. Born in Brooklyn on January 17, 1899, to Italian immigrants, Capone became involved in gangs- known as "kid gangs"- at an early age. After dropping out of school at 14, he worked a few jobs and eventually became part of Manhattan's Five Point gang and worked as a bartender at gangster, Frankie Yale's bar. After getting in a fight with a young woman's brother, Capone received his famous nickname,"Scarface", from the scars the man left.
   In the 1920's during the Prohibition Era, Capone controlled a multi-million dollar bootlegging operation in Chicago which dominated organized crime in America. Along with bootlegging, Capone's gang was responsible for prostitution, gambling, and many brutal acts of violence- mainly towards other gangsters. on February 14, 1929, Capones mob
