Why did they choose D-Day?- it had to be at night, the ships had to arrive at low tide, required a moonlit night to see where to land, the weather had to be good, only a few days with the perfect conditions
Omaha beach- American assault almost failed to Germans, ended in success, showed fight of Allies
Plan in the Pacific- American plan to defeat Japanese by island hopping until they reached Japan, led to bombings and eventual surrender of Japan
Island Hopping- America's plan to advance through islands in the Pacific until they reached Japan capturing north coast of New Guinea and retaking the Philippines, led to surrender of Japan
Guadalcanal- first invasion of General MacArthur's island hopping campaign, troops captured enough islands to surround main Japanese base
Leyte Gulf- largest naval battle in history, first time Japanese used kamikaze attacks
